A little collection of tracks that are the perfect introduction to the man who goes by Teebs.  This is glitch-hop on another planet.  Pulsating auras and bright accents fill the sound stage with a euphoric glitter that enlightens while it soothes.  It begins with a fifteen minute BBC radio mix and nine other songs worthy of the repeat button.

Piano Overlord - The Singles Collection 03-05

Yet another alias of Scott Heron aka Prefuse 73. I wasn't even aware of this incarnation until I stumbled across it in a small record store back home. On this project we hear a more acoustic approach that differs from the usual glitchy sample chops and eerie processed landscapes. Full, vibrant tunes are interspersed with free-form jazz type ones that cycle the listeners experience. Not to worry though, there's plenty of beats to keep the head-nodders happy. :^)

The Q4 - Sound Surroundings (2010)

The Q4 is a Dutch hip-hop collaborative formed around 2005. While listening I imagine a lonely tour down the dark, narrow alleyways of Amsterdam, occasionally passing a bright neon glow and the intoxicating emanation of coffee shops. Guest voices here play the people you pass along the way. Who might you meet?

Eligh - Gandalf's Beat Machine Level 3 (2009)

Eligh has been the driving musical force behind hip-hop super-group Living Legends for many years and has released multiple collaborations with The Grouch. This is underground hip-hop with a sense of infinite depth, possibility, and a highly developed urbanity that can only come from such a seasoned veteran. No question this machine has soul.

Flying Lotus - Reset EP

There isn't much else to say about this man other than that he's pushing hip-hop boundaries and has created quite a following doing so. I always keep this EP close when I need my FlyLo fix.

Dert Floyd - The West Side of the Moon (2008)

This digital only concept album uses samples taken from the vastness that is Pink Floyd. It's interesting to hear how he chops everything to bits, then drops huge beats on top, making it difficult to actually tell what song the cut came from. I believe this man is a true player in the future of hip-hop.

Metaform - Standing on the Shoulders of Giants (2008)

When I first got this album, I had to listen to it over and over just to catch all the little snippets of intrigue that are contained within the short songs. It doesn't give the feeling of flow so much as each track is a trip of it's own.

Mr. Cooper - Amongst Strangers (2005)

This is the first full length outing by Brighton, England producer Mr. Cooper. A very solemn collection of beats with sharp drums splitting through hazy backgrounds. Save for a rainy night.

Deceptikon - Lost Subject (2004)

I've only recently heard of Deceptikon and this album seems like a good introduction, considering it's his first LP. It is full of tight drums backing soft keys and floating samples, creating a nice contrast. May it bring you darkness.

Sixtoo - Chewing On Glass & Other Miracle Cures (2004)

A dope producer originally from Halifax. This is his first full length release on Ninja Tune records.

Blockhead - Music by Cavelight (2004)

Blockhead's debut solo LP. He uses wide array of mysterious samples here, but no raps - only the beat to coax you deeper into the cave. Includes instrumentals of Daylight and Nightlight from the Aesop days.

Dday One - Heavy Migration (2008)

Been digging this guy lately. Plenty of sad dusty piano loops and distorted drums breaks create a slightly haunting experience. Listen on low, but listen closely...

40 Winks - The Lucid Effect (2008)

This is perfect late night hip-hop, as the title suggests. It's the soundtrack to your dreams.

Afta-1 - Aftathoughts Vol. 1 (2008)

This is the epitome of a sleeper. Spacey and atmospheric hip-hop that never loses the bounce. One of the best releases of last year, imho. Please enjoy.
