Teebs - 09 (2009)

A little collection of tracks that are the perfect introduction to the man who goes by Teebs.  This is glitch-hop on another planet.  Pulsating auras and bright accents fill the sound stage with a euphoric glitter that enlightens while it soothes.  It begins with a fifteen minute BBC radio mix and nine other songs worthy of the repeat button.

Piano Overlord - The Singles Collection 03-05

Yet another alias of Scott Heron aka Prefuse 73. I wasn't even aware of this incarnation until I stumbled across it in a small record store back home. On this project we hear a more acoustic approach that differs from the usual glitchy sample chops and eerie processed landscapes. Full, vibrant tunes are interspersed with free-form jazz type ones that cycle the listeners experience. Not to worry though, there's plenty of beats to keep the head-nodders happy. :^)

Mr. Scruff - Keep It Unreal (1999)

An early Mr. Scruff album released soon after he signed to the mighty Ninja Tune. It has a late-nineties quality to it which I enjoy, but there are some tracks worthy of skipping. What remains is a few gems that must be shared.

Nostalgia 77 - Songs For My Funeral (2004)

This is Nostalgia 77's first full length on the Tru Thoughts label. In the seven years since it's release, this man has continued to explore undiscovered territories of nu-jazz and received many accolades along the way. It started here with a grainy mix of old jazz sensibility and new drum-break flair – far from funeral music.

Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue (2009)

Pure sonic art that gracefully extends from one character of sound to the next. It lets you settle in but it doesn't let you get too comfortable by evoking emotion with it's unpredictability. Just go where it takes you.

Third P - Space Traveler (2009)

Traveling through Space on the same orbit as Ras G and Samiyam, Third P crosses saw waves and sine waves to create short passages of 8-bit noise without lacking undertones. It's not entirely original, but it is entirely delectable.

Flying Lotus - Reset EP

There isn't much else to say about this man other than that he's pushing hip-hop boundaries and has created quite a following doing so. I always keep this EP close when I need my FlyLo fix.

J.Viewz - Muse Breaks (2005)

Michna - Magic Monday (2008)

Adrian Michna, co-founder of the Secret Frequency Crew. This is his only full length solo release to date. It's a sweet blend of glitchy electronics with a smattering of acoustic trombone, proving to be a satisfying listen every time.

Metaform - Standing on the Shoulders of Giants (2008)

When I first got this album, I had to listen to it over and over just to catch all the little snippets of intrigue that are contained within the short songs. It doesn't give the feeling of flow so much as each track is a trip of it's own.

Jaga Jazzist - A Livingroom Hush (2002)

Yes, another Ninja Tune classic. This is a jazz supergroup from Norway that is comprised of up to 10 multi-instrumentalists. They were recently in Chicago recording a new album, so look out for that.

Skalpel - Skalpel (2004)

Skalpel is a production duo from Poland that creates a variable landscape of sound using classic jazz samples exclusive to their home country. This album drifts from full to sparse and straightforward to quirky but always remains engaging.

Bonobo - One Offs...Remixes & B-Sides (2002)

This is a b-sides album where nothing really sounds like b-sides. All quality and all smoked out, this little release from '02 is perfect for late night listening.
